Tobal 2

released on Apr 25, 1997

The fighting system in Tobal 2 is the same as in the previous game. The player can freely navigate 3D fighting arenas under the condition that he or she faces the opponent. High, medium, and low attacks can be executed using assigned buttons. As in Tobal No. 1, the grappling and blocking system offers the player a variety of offensive and defensive maneuvers. A new unblockable fireball attack has been added for each character. Tobal 2 was released on the same day as Sony's Dual Analog Controller in Japan, noted as the first game compatible with the peripheral. Graphically, the game features Gouraud shaded and higher-resolution character models compared to Tobal No. 1, but still runs at 60 frames per second.

jogo inovador pra época que me intriga até hoje e teve a grande Lenda Akira Toriyama como designer de personagens (que descanse em paz).

For any Dragon Ball fanboy that is overly obsessed with the series and prefers to play Final Bout/Ultimate Battle 22 instead of any other fighting game avaiable on PS1: just stop.

This. THIS is the game that should be played instead.

It's a perfect alternative from Virtua Fighter. Sure, not as great as a Tekken by any means, but my god if it's a solid fast-paced 1v1 fun game.

Sadly what wasn't in the previous game wasn't fixed and it has the same exact modes. The game is still great enough to provide some solid fighting gameplay you would be fine with it.

I feel like if i didn't suck at fighting games i'd be able to appreciate this game more. I liked the huge amount of unlockable characters, and i feel like modern vidya could learn from the dungeon mode.

There are two things you need to know about Tobal 2:

1. You need to play this game in analog mode.

2. The Quest Mode totally rocks your face.

Why Square never gave us this game but chose to release Chocobo’s Dungeon 2 or Driving Emotion Type-S instead I’ll never know. I think this was before Square Electronic Arts came about, (editor's note: this was written a long time ago, now nobody remembers when Square teamed up with EA) so maybe they didn’t have quite enough clout yet to make a game profitable, unless it came with a Final Fantasy demo. In any case, it’s a 3D fighting game, and the game is super great. Even I like it. Not much fun with a D-Pad, so try and avoid it. Kay?

a dungeon crawler where the main threats to your life are food scarcity and having too much xp in your arms. my favourite fighting game ever and i vowed to never attempt to finish it
