Troddlers is a puzzle game in the vein of Lemmings. The player takes control of an animal-like wizard who can create and remove blocks; these blocks are useful for both jumping onto and redirecting the path of the little Troddlers that you have to direct towards the exit. The tricky bit is that the Troddlers can climb walls and ceilings, following the edge of the world and the exit is often in the middle of the screen or with an obstacle in the way.

Pros: Fun mix of falling block puzzler and the game of Lemmings, but also a little bit of Solomon's Key in there!? Yeah, kinda interesting! The game has you playing as little Jim Henson-y Fraggle Rock lookin dudes, as you walk and jump around a 2D area, creating gray blocks out of thin air using a wand, and also suckin up blocks if you so desire. Use these blocks to create platforms, stairs, blockages, walkways, etc, to help these little Troddler characters to reach the exit door. That's the big Lemmings part of it. Each area requires a certain amount of Troddlers to reach the exit to be able to move on to the next stage. There's some good levels here, fun puzzley ones, ones that make ya think, it's solid. It's also two-players simultaneous co-op, which is a plus. Not to mention, the sound design here is pure nostalgic bliss, the SNES soundfont, the reverb-y synth sound, it's magical.

Cons: Controls are a bit tough, creating blocks at the right angles at the right time, while on a timer, is a bit of a stress, I'll admit. The graphics are a bit bare too, nothing great looking here. But you can tell, this is a lower budget title, ported over from a stronger PC version. I think it holds up well though... Also strangely, this game supports the SNES mouse, I don't think it's any better with it though.

What it means to me: This game, is one of those "hidden gems" of my childhood, rented it a couple dozen times at my grandma's house, and played co-op with my brother. We'd always write down the passwords to keep up with our progress, as it became a regular rent any time we'd visit. We really liked this game, this one was one of those games that was ours and ours alone. Nobody else, to this day, really talks about it. But it's special to me and my brother, and share good memories with it.
