‣ Game Audio / Soundtrack - 10/10
‣ Graphics – 6/10
‣ Atmosphere – 9/10
‣ Main Story / Characters – 7/10
‣ Physics – 7/10
‣ Movement – 8/10
‣ Final notes: If you are a major fan of titles like Little Nightmares, Inside or Limbo you will find this game similar. Both in storytelling, atmosphere building and gameplay it feels familiar to those mentioned games. For me it was interesting to try it out, but after finishing I felt like I could’ve just watched someone else do it. The world design here is creepy and weird to say the least. It is hard to describe what this was, but overall, White Shadows is a game where you are a raven shunned by other animals who live in a city where light is like a drug and a prime resource necessary for survival. You try to escape this city and the game builds up the racism towards birds as you progress. There is not much to say about gameplay or the puzzles. Most of them include timing your movement and being in the right spots at the right moment. One thing I did enjoy was the way the story is told. I still did not fully understand what all of this was about, but at least I was not horribly confused by the times it ended.

White Shadows is a black-and-white dystopic narrative adventure game from developer Monokel. Taking clear inspiration from pieces like Inside and Little Nightmares, White Shadows tells a story of racism and xenophobia from the perspective of a young Raven Girl. Like its inspirations, our protagonist must navigate the strange, mechanical world to survive when everything is trying to kill her. The game's most striking feature is its black and white art style, which is an elevated look from obvious comparison Limbo. While White Shadows mainly stays in the second dimension, the backgrounds consistently wow with dozens of moving signs, trains, and figures littering the vast, gloomy landscapes. The camera also takes liberties in key moments, which led to some engaging and surprising moments that were very appreciated. Much of the 2-3 hour runtime of White Shadows is running, hiding, and solving puzzles to progress. The solutions are comparable to Playdead's work, but skew on the easier side, with a heavier emphasis on platforming. Everything is in service of the story, which the game is not afraid to focus on without player interface for short bursts of time. If you are looking to have the most immersive gameplay experience, this is not for you. I did experience a few bugs during my time, a few checpoints didn't reset the same way after death, and one early section threw me off a moving platform in a strange way. Luckily, nothing impeded me progress for longer than a few seconds. White Shadows has a lot of great ideas to showcase, and Monokel does a great job in looping the oppressive story in with the thrilling stealth platforming. The story may not find its footing completely, but it's an excellent adventure to ride through if you're looking for more of the genre.

For fans of: Inside, Limbo, Little Nightmares 1/2, Bioshock

I feel that's too minimalistic, but it's a not a bad game, kinda unfinished but it has it's own personality.
