I'm trying so hard to get into through the first section, but the fact that you lose ALL your currency when you die makes it so goddamn tedious. Is there something I'm missing here? Am I not playing it right? Someone please tell me, or just give me some advice to get through it. I want to know what all the fuss is about.

That is such a waste of time, and another risk of dying all over again. I mean, the thing that killed you in the first place is obviously still there and just as equally hard to kill as the last time you saw it.
I mean, you would’ve learned a lesson from the first time you died to it, so you should be able to fight the enemy more carefully and with a better strategy in mind.
Also, sometimes the knight’s spirit spawns in a different place rather than the exact place you died in, so keep that in mind.

What strategy? You're just pressing the attack button and have to stay away from the enemy's claw swipe. The only lack of strategy there are basic coordination mistakes that cause 1/6 of damage.
