Elden Ring is a once in a generation game. One of the few open world games that will be remembered for years. Far Cry or any other generic open world game have nothing on this game.

The best feature about this game is exploration. Exploration is some of the best in the business, why? Because the incentive to explore is incredibly high. Stuck on a story boss? Simple, just do a bunch of side bosses and dungeons to level up, find better items and simply come back later and one shot the boss you were stuck on.

The lesson of Dark Souls is to overcome an impossible boss through sheer skill, willpower and using death as a link to your eventual victory. The lesson of this game is that to overcome a boss, you must simply explore more of this beautiful and breathtaking world to become stronger and find hidden items to give you an edge. The need to explore more is heightened by this sense of need to kill the boss gating progression. And the amount of secrets hidden within like hidden zones and areas kept me constantly surprised and excited by infinite possibilities.

If you explore enough, you will eventually get so overpowered, you can solo most bosses with ease, and I frankly love that. Is this a bit cursed coming from a FromSoft game? Yes? Is it an interesting, unique and fun gameplay loop that remixes the Souls formula in a cool way? Well my words speak for me.

The combat is still incredibly engaging and punishing if you aren't careful, the art style is beautiful and the tone is masterful.

Like Dark Souls, I had zero clue on what the story exactly was? I loved the world like Dark Souls, but the lore and dialogue went over my head (which I'm fine with). However unlike Dark Souls, I did become attached to a few characters, mainly the smithy, I love that dude :(

There are issues here, the performance on PC is pretty abysmal, especially after the recent patch? I have no idea how a patch can make a game run worse. The platforming is janky and fall damage is inconsistent.

Despite the hiccups, I truly believe this is one of the best open world games in gaming, it certainly lived up to the hype and more. I am glad to have played it, and thanks to my friend Alek who gifted me it, he is a real one.
