If I was reviewing this game like a normal person, I would just say story mode is really just a slightly worse version of Splatoon 1's, but unfortunately I did not experience the story mode like a normal person.

I beat the story mode regularly one time, and then decided to do 100%, which of course involved beating every level in the game with every weapon, ergo doing the whole game 7 MORE times, which is already a pretty steeper goal than the first game, but it did not end there for me. After being at this for a good 30 hours, all I had to do at that point was beat the final boss 2 more times.

But then the game crashed. and not only did the game crash, so did my entire Switch. so thanks to Nintendo's flawless console hardware and cloud services, I had to beat the story mode a total of 15 TIMES FOR 100%!!!!!!!!!

I love the first game's story mode more than anything and this one's only a couple steps behind in terms of general gameplay and level design, but after undergoing the hellish monotonous task that was 100%-ing it, I will no longer be able to play it without having war flashbacks and a constant fear of my Switch getting toasted again. Thanks Nintendo!

I really don't have much else to say outside of the story mode, turf war would be better if they didn't nerf the inkbrush into oblivion and I just didn't suck, and salmon Run is awesome but also brutal and hellish and unfair.

I still reach nirvana listening to the soundtrack, I'm still losing my mind over the story and lore especially now that I have to wait to buy 3 to see where it goes next, and I still want to eat the art style.

...And then Octo Expansion is every good thing I've said about this game and the first one, but then about a thousand times better.
