I think some of you guys are a little too hard on this game.

I have never played the original Resident Evil 3 but I understand where many of this game's criticisms are coming from. First of all, I did mostly enjoy character movement and the RE Engine's complete visual overhaul from the 1999 game, but this game makes too incomplete of a jump from the horror-focused RE2 Remake to the more action-focused RE3 Remake. The new dodge mechanic doesn't work very well and doesn't really function as you would hope, and Carlos's sections in the game, spraying zombies with his Assault Rifle, both feel lazy on Capcom's part. The short reuse of the RCPD Building and parts of the Umbrella Corp. lab also unfortunately add to this feeling...

Nemesis and the game's overall length are also disappointing. The game can be completed in about 6 hours at a normal pace, but the game's ranking system encourages you to beat it in under 2 and a half hours. Regarding Nemesis, besides the opening section, he really only feels more "cool" than scary. I think he had a lot more potential as a villain, but he's mostly reduced to cutscenes and boss fights. Again, I've never touched the OG RE3, but I've heard it manages Nemesis as a villain much better.

HOWEVER, despite all of these criticisms, RE3-make as a whole is a good game. On a technical and mechanical level, this 2020 game is better than 80% of the shit that has come out in the last three years. I still greatly enjoyed perfectly shooting zombies in the head with my variety of weapons, and exploration and collection is still tight as ever. The only software issue I encountered in my 10 total hours of gameplay was a weird desync of audio and video in one of the cutscenes, but I soft-reset my console and it fixed the issue. I also really love how Capcom openly pokes fun/references other series through this game, like Carlos's remark about "if I could kill zombies with a camera I'd be set," and the crappy Mega Man 1 box art design having its own toy line in the toy store.

All of these details go to show that Capcom took this remake less seriously, for better and for worse. They used a great framework and engine from the RE2 Remake and changed it in various places, where perhaps in some they shouldn't have.

3.5/5. An enjoyable experience.

P.S., I really didn't like Jill's voice actor. She didn't sound very authentic as a character, which kind-of took away from the experience. That's it, the end. Bye bye.
