>mediocre 2010's generic third person shooter about killing people but now has a shitty and pretentious message about "are we really the bad guys?" presented in the worst possible way
>"masterpiece" and "hidden gem that we didn't understood at the time"

the hook is the story, not the one single subversion. I found seeing these characters react to the situation was emotionally engaging and their decent from soldiers into broken shells felt like a rollercoaster. thinking this game is just "HRRR DRRR YOU DID THIS FEEL BAD" is not it

@Scanhehe
Anti war stories set in the middle of the warfare are a common stapple in fiction, the game has a lot of inconsistency in the narrative direction that contradicts itself with the gameplay. Yes, the characters have their proper reactions on said situations, yet the game is designed like if it was a gears clone, lets ignore the phosphorus scene since it's not a "single" subversion, the whole narrative pushes questions about morality with analogies/critiques to the american pride just so when the cutscene finishes you are thrown into killing in cold blood like nothing happened. heck, there's even achievements that rewards the player for killing multiple enemies with one granade, headshots, killing x quantity on total with specific weapons, etc.
There's a clear inconsistency with what the director want and what the designers had, now i ask you, how this story differs from similar games?, i insist on what i said on the first paragraph, spec ops the line doesn't stands out either as a story or as a game.
