I decided to play thinking about how cool it would be to be on the other side of the court for once, and I once I played... Disappointment. While this is on me for not even reading the game's brief, it is a huge miss. Your sidekick gets swapped almost every case and even the new addition of Kay is lackluster.

Court was always the better half of the ace attorney experience for me, but they took the worse half and made it the entire game. Edgeworth is an interesting character and previous appearances were impactful because of the synergy between him and phoenix, but that is lacking here.

Other than the missing flavor of ace attorney, the writing here is stretched abnormally thin. Third case syndrome is here as always and it seeps into other cases. 2nd case introduces a part of the overarching plot but it feels like a proto-third case.
The last case is painfully stretched to the point where you have to re-establish evidence and events more than once because for some stupid reason my explanation was disregarded. It's not just a disappointing for a final case, it's arguably one of the worst.

The music is pretty good, I haven't heard such a striking OST since the first AA game. Still I can't recommend Edgeworth investigations, if you've heard people praise the edgeworth spin off they might be talking about the 2nd one.
