I fell in love with Ys Memories of Celceta on the Vita and after finishing it I felt I had to play a game that came before it. Ys Seven was that game, and I found it to be a fun ARPG, but it paled in comparison to Ys: MoC. I can't really place my finger on why that is exactly (maybe the story wasn't as good? maybe the characters weren't as likeable?). It was still a solid game that I'm glad I played through.

Thanks for the recommendation @FallenGrace. A few years back I started up a run in Ys VIII, making it about 12 hours in, but set it aside and haven't gone back to it yet. I really should though. It had a dreadful slow start but it was getting quite interesting once I made it off the beach. I really should go back to this at some point. Thanks for reminding me about it!
Yeah it's a slow burn initially but picks up a fair bit later on. Most Falcon games kinda start like that 👍🏻
