Civ VI is the most recent entry in the series, and it really does keep up the series reputation of being a marvelous strategy game. I really enjoyed this game but personally I didn't enjoy it more than V. Sometimes less is more, and VI tried adding depth to everything compared to V, which rubbed me the wrong. The District system is the main standout of where VI shines, since now playing wide (building many cities) is more viable, since you want more cities with more districts, specializing those cities by the Districts you plop down in them. Visually on the map, it makes cities look pretty cool as well.

But there are a lot of changes in this game I just hate compared to V. I hate that Religious Victory can creep on you if you're not ready, and the way Religious units have full on Baldur's Gate Sorcerer battles is really silly. I hate that Workers are charges instead of actual support units. I hate that you can't build roads until the mid-game and have to rely on the roads Caravans make with their pathing. I could spend a lot of the day poking holes in VI's unncessarily complex design choices, but really, it is a good game still. Just not my cup of tea compared to V. And I think many agree, because at the time of writing, Civ's playerbase is still significantly split between V and VI. Civ VI strays around 40K players, while V strays around 20K players. That's a pretty big split of players, and it's clear VI didn't quite appeal to all fans of the series.

I know some complain about the artstyle, and I get that too. I think VI's artstyle will age better in the long run compared to V's, but I hate how cartoony the leaders look personally. I think for VII, a blend of the two would be good. Colorful artstyle for the world space, with more realistic-looking leaders would be nice.

Also, Firaxis really needs to release the DLL for the game. The game really tries to engender mod support by allowing achievements to be earned even with mods, having a Steam workshop, a mod menu in-game, making it so mods are streamlined to work properly in Multiplayer without effort, and etc. Leader abilities are separate from Civs so that it's easier to make alternate Leaders.

But many notable modders don't seem to have any passion for VI modding as opposed to V, which still sees mod support fairly often. Yeah, there are great mods from great creators, but it feels like they've fizzled out over time. Release the DLL Firaxis. It'll make people really start modding this game the way they do V.
