What you see below this review is one made by a good friend of mine who considers this as the worst Sonic game he's ever played. I have to disagree severely with that assessment. 8-bit Sonic 2 is by no means some amazing masterpiece of 8-bit platformers, but it is decently fun and creative for it's type and specially it's release date. Most levels are very fast and usually take around a minute leading to the game never feeling to monotonous, it's graphics and music are pretty damn good for an 8-bit title, even if not on par with some late NES games that were released around the time, and while it certainly has a lot of roughness around the edges and quite a numerous amount of flaws, they never outright hinder my experience to the point of considering this some absolutely horrendous piece of flith that should never be touched.

Now granted I was playing the version of this game that doesn't suffer from severe screen crunch and I wasn't heading for the Chaos Emeralds so for all I know Crystal Egg Zone could be some horrible final stage that ruins the entire thing, but I rather doubt it. Overall, it's an ok platformer but not something you really need to go out of your way to play.
