Sharp X1 Tasting Menu

A small selection of games for Sharp's X1 family of 8-bit home computers. You can find most Sharp X1 games on Internet Archive via Neo Kobe for use with the emulator of your choice. I recommend eX1, Xmilx, or a MiSTer FPGA if you have one.

Developed by Sharp's television division (despite the computer division already releasing the extensive MZ series), the X1 differed by doubling as a TV set and bearing TV-focused functionalities which worked even with the main computer turned off. Following Sharp's 'clean design' philosophy, the X1 notably did not include BASIC on a ROM chip, giving the user more access to RAM when not using BASIC. This did come with the caveat of needing to load an OS at each power-on, but the user was therefore given complete control over the hardware. The X1 would draw small sprites quickly, and while it was not as smooth as a games console like the NES, it was overall better at fast action than other 8-bits of the time. It also had an optional FM synthesis addon for the base model, with the X1turboZ (the best iteration) having it built in.

Many X1 games are available on other 8-bits of the time, namely the Fujitsu FM-7 and NEC PC-88.
