Full Disclosure; I played this after playing Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 4; So now I see where they got the pet idea in Far Cry 5 and riding Elephant idea in Far Cry 4. There isn’t a lick of English in this game, so subtitles are a must, and if you thought the hunting and skinning animals’ idea was annoying in Far Cry 3-5, don’t even bother with this game.
Somehow, they figured out how to make this game enjoyable by interweaving the hunting mechanic with the main story. You still need to hunt A LOT, but it makes sense as you are building your tribe from scratch. You upgrade your weapons, huts, skills by hunting and upgrading, building your tribe from nothing as you slowly liberate parts of the map from other hostile tribes.
Wildlife is more rampant than ever as you can’t move though the map without stumbling into a herd of wolves or woolly mammoths. And yes, every animal will attack you if you get to close with the exception of the deer maybe.
There are probably two things in this game that makes it stand out from the others; the first you get to tame and ride some of the elite beasts in the game, which include Sabretooth Tigers, Willy Mammoth and a bear named Scar. This makes traversing the map fun and quick going from waypoint to waypoint using your bow to attack or commanding your beast to maul whatever is in your path.
The second might be an idea taken from Ghost Recon Wildlands. Scouting hostile camps with an owl (instead of a drone), allows you to tag enemies as you control your owl from above, commanding your pet to attack, dropping different types of toxic bombs or simply telling your owl to dive attack on a lookout.
There is no climbing towers, there plenty of different landscapes including a winter north providence, use of fire is required and a must to survive and plenty of fun weapons. The title “primal” fits, as it’s probably he most violent Far Cry game made, you will run into different tribes having sex out in the open. Overall, there’s enough diverse stuff in this game where it isn’t just liberating rinse wash and repeat. Far Cry ranking below.
