As a person who hates the whole "Souls" formula this game is fun and fresh enough to keep me playing. Open world is pretty darn good and you can play the game however you want. Want to spend time getting a new katana you'll probably never going to use? Go for it because the game allows you to do whatever the fuck you want. Random mini bosses are fun to fight, dungeons are somehow not copypaste's; every aspect of the open world feels different and It's a delight to explore these. And the best part is you can entirely miss or encounter accidentally every single one of them.

For instance when exploring the first castle I happened to jump on a sandbag on somewhere completely unrelated to my destination. Followed a kinda weird path and found a (forgotthenametalismankindofthing) asked my friend if they got this too and they said "I didn't even know a place like this existed and I was pretty sure that I explored the entire castle." then I returned back and jumped into a death-trap looking place and somehow arrived at the boss location. I probably skipped lots of important places but the game let me to explore the castle the way I wanted to and I really appreciate this.

As I said I don't like Souls games, their combat felt pretty boring and unresponsive to me (Maybe because I only played them on ps4) and Elden Ring is mostly the same case. So you liked them you'll like this, you hated them you'll hate this Elden Ring is still a Souls game but it's the same thing with lot lots of flavour sprinkled over it. I expected to hate this but I thoroughly enjoyed my 6-7 hours with it and probably will play more when I have more free time in my hands. It's nothing like a "best game ever made" but It's still a pretty well made game even after all that hype built over it.

Also this game runs like a total piece of crap on ps4 don't even consider buying this for a classic/slim ps4.

Also I should really stop writing reviews to games I didn't even got quarter into on 1 am

I still can't believe a game like this lived up to Its comically enormous amounts of hype

Do the technical issues get too bad? I've been playing on ps4 slim and in 7 hours of playtime my frames have just dropped once for a bit.

Maybe my ps slim is faulty dunno my frames drop a lot like whole a lot. Plus I play on an 144hz display so game feels pretty weird compared to playing on a 60hz display and I can definitely say that it feels pretty shitty compared to the pc version but nothing unplayable

smh don't say that i preordered it for ps4 and it hasn't even arrived yet
I'd say there's no way it could run worse than unlatched bloodborne but that wasn't open world

I experience lag spikes when I turn the camera fast, there are projectiles/explosion on the screen, most of the times i take hits. Also Im pretty sure that frame timing sucks ass too but I could not compare this with bloodborne its been ages since I played it

Interesting, Ive seen PS4 footage comparison and doesn't even look that bad, almost constant 30 FPS everytime.

Just as I stated above I highly suspect that It's a problem of my machine. Also when I watch my gameplay recordings from the exact same monitor it look obviously better recorded video frame times are pretty misleading. On the other hand I'm pretty sure that game does not run smooth recorded or not, when I get to explore a new area game runs at an unstable 20 to 25 fps and my machine gets extremely hot. I dusted it off a week ago and no change it's either because my machine is faulty or I need to replace my thermal paste which I'm not going to do just to play one game

Also fps highly differs depending on what you're viewing. Boss fights are mostly pretty okay with no obvious drops but the open world exploration lags my machine pretty PRETTY hard so much that I get headaches from playing for 2 to 3 hours which never ever happened to me before
Just got around playing like the first 10 hours and it actually runs pretty decently (and by decent I mean barely 30 fps with dips)
But yeah I expected far worse given DS3 already ran poorly and that wasn't open world, and in Bloodborne and Sekiro the world would often not load on time if you ran too fast

Also hadn't been blown away by a game in a while, good stuff

I mean I wasn't expecting amazing performance anyway, this is a 2022 game on a 2014 machine, there's some level of sacrifice to be done. I'm glad it runs decently
