This is the Madden game I keep coming back to. The gameplay just feels the best in the series to me. The running game is overpowered but fun. The controls feel responsive. Even though the game says Ignite on the box, it was the first year, and it still feels like the Infinity engine (a good thing).

Franchise mode is also a lot of fun with 30 years of preprogrammed draft classes and storylines. The menus look good while also being quick and snappy. It's fun to look through the news feed (which uses screenshots from the game) to see what is happening around the league. Scouting and drafting is undercooked and a bit of a chore.

If you have the choice between PS4 and Xbox One, PS4 looks noticeably better when side-by-side. For unknown reasons, the color balance in the Xbox One version feels off. Fields and uniforms sometimes appear too bright, and even things like names and numbers on the back of jerseys are jagged and less legible than the Playstation version.

The game allows you to play as NFL legends in Superstar/Connected Franchise mode, but as usual, you are confined to controlling just one player. Not allowing these legends to be used normally in the game feels like a missed opportunity, but it's still a blast to be able to play as Barry Sanders and company outside of MUT.

Madden 25 stands out for its unusual name and being an anniversary year. It's also one of the better games in the series.
