Tried to play Jet Set Radio recently and got enamored by its aesthetic, the cartoon, goofy style, so vibrant with life, made me happy. But the premature, barely-working controls threw me off hard, and despite the fact the game is visually unique, it didn't feel as funky or GRAFFITI as I expected (IMO future did it much better even tho I haven't played it) so after finishing it I rushed to play this one. The visual identity is still a bit too much on the cartoon side, but it makes for a good middle ground between JSR and JSRF in this aspect.

Gameplay-wise the game is amazing, it has a simple set of tricks and rail grinding is the most important thing here, but it doesn't feel lacking in any department when it comes to style. Although I feel I must say that the combat is pretty boring and honestly, quite bad. I mean, if it didn't have combat I would probably enjoy it a little bit more, but if it did have an actual good combat, it would be MUCH better IMO. Despite that, the gameplay is still a selling point worth bragging about.

The soundtrack is terrific! However, I'm afraid to say it falls a little bit on the short side of all things. Two hours worth of soundtrack isn't bad, but it could have much more, and since the radio plays some songs more than others, it gets annoying pretty fast. Mainly when some songs have a catchy structure to it (fuck nails dun hair dun, not a bad song, but god is it annoying).

The sections/levels/worlds/locations are all very good, and they actually just get better as time goes by, Pyramid Island and Mataan are the best locations in the game as they should, and the first section is the weaker one, still pretty decent regardless (and it has a very good tutorial and keeps in mind the learning curve). Also, the dream sections are quite the highlight.

Finally, the story, too simple and bare bones. Which is more than enough, however it really has some effort and care put into it. I would go as far as saying it goes the extra mile to make the story more compelling, still simple, but with charm.

Great game, highly recommended!!!
