in cod 1, you start with the crescendo of american patriotic fervor, then the desperate espionage of the british, then finally the grueling onslaught of the soviet levels. it ends with raising a flag over the reichstag. A wonderful platter of WW2 in popular culture.

in cod 2, this is reversed. you start as the russians, mostly set dressing for the tutorial, then the brits in north africa, then the obligatory dday and american campaign.

this does not work as well, mostly for not giving the russians the time they really deserve. but it could be salvaged!

it is not. the ending is the capture of a town past the rhine. you get a promotion. the end credits play a cute scene of saving captain price (why... am i watching this and not playing it?)

the obvious, the insane in your face choice, is for the final scene to be Elbe Day. maybe meet the player character from the first mission. i dunno man. it would have much more weight. this game makes me think the thematic pacing in cod 1 was not a decision. just a happy accident.
