I shouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did. The graphics, voice acting, controls, story and characters are all pretty bad. It doesn't hold up well but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I noticed what David Cage does a lot of is showing something then asking the audience to care for it even though there's no reason to. Like the killers childhood backstory, or the whole idea of Ethan finding his son, or even caring for Ethan in general. Ethan has nothing to him apart from being someone looking for his son, I can't think of ways to describe his personality because it's nonexistent. Every single character is so basic and inconsistent. The game also lies to your face to set up the twist about who the killer is but the twist makes no sense. As soon as it's revealed, this character just becomes an entirely different person but not in a look how he lied the whole time type of way but this is fucking bullshit, who could have come up with this kind of way. It also creates many loopholes in the story that are never answered which makes me curious if Quantic Dreams game scripts have ever gotten a peer review. There's also some unusual scenes thrown in that don't serve any purpose but I'm sure Mr. Cage argued to be included because he wanted them; like when the hot girl you play as is walking around in her underwear and almost gets raped by four men, or how the only black guy in the entire game is big, dumb and tries to kill you. Your kid who was raised in Philadelphia by American parents also has a funny European accent, the whole game has so many dumb inconsistencies that are laughably obvious.

As I said; however, I enjoyed the game. It has some moments that are so bad they're funny but at the same time you can see what was trying to be achieved which can be respectable. The soundtrack is fantastic and the overall atmosphere of the game is what I loved the most. The dark tone with the constant rain reminded me a lot of Se7en or Prisoners some of my favorite movies and when the simple piano music kicks in the back its beautiful, everything works together perfectly.

Nothing about the game is close to Telltale level but it could still be enjoyed if you like those games and don't think a lot about the story. I believe this game is best played with your partner, it's like watching one of those shitty DVD's from the $5 Walmart bargain bin together.
