What Remains of Edith Finch wields the full power of the medium's potential for storytelling in a video-game format. Unfortunately, It misses the mark several times and devolves into passive spectatorship in a few memories, essentially utilizing the worst aspects of 'walking simulator' conventions. Yet, I believe it is a seminal game in the genre with brilliant presentation, memorable characterization, and its highly graceful profundity of recognizing, and, even celebrating, life's impermanence.
