Final Fantasy XIII is a good game. That much needs to be said.

After over a decade of hearing how horrible it is, I'm thrilled to report that I heard wrong.

FF13 is undoubtedly flawed. Not every new mechanic sticks the landing, the complaints about its linearity are fair, and on that same note, the pacing can be iffy at times.

However, this game has a wealth of strengths: the cast is lovable, the visuals are stunning (even now), and the story (once it finds its footing) sticks the landing far more often than not.

Final Fantasy XIII has issues, and I can see why they'd be deal breakers for some people, but I encourage you (especially now, with the game regularly discounted on PC and Xbox) to give it a fair try. It's far from the worst game in the franchise, and seeing it through to the end has been infinitely rewarding.
