Managed to finally play the game after the recent rerelease on Red Candle Games's own storefront.

Beautiful, depressing and deeply disturbing horror narrative game where you unveil the story of a Taiwanese family throughout the 1980s. Folklore, religion, traditional family values, the weight of expectations put on children. There's so much delivered so well with a pacing that is the closest to perfect as it gets, there's basically never a meaningless moment in this game.

Top notch environmental storytelling helps to elevate the narrative even more. So many moments are just so creative and interesting, I was positively surprised in the moment to moment and it never really stopped with that. Everything really felt like it meant something, as if I could interpret it in some way that made sense and felt satisfying.

Sound design is excellent too, it's an horror title and it does manage to instill some pretty good tension in each area. The noise of the ambience never feels repetitive enough to make you feel safe, it always felt like some new sound from unknown origins would be added to keep you on your toes.

I could talk forever about how well this game was pulled off. If I were to talk about my issues with the game, it would be that the game features some pretty cheap jumpscares that don't really have a place in this kind of game. I don't think a horror game needs jumpscares to be horror, especially when they're so sloppy like the ones in here. They're mostly present in the first half of the game, so it makes me wonder if they were perhaps added to attract more casual viewers for easy Youtube video bait.

It's a such a unique and memorable game, especially for people that want to experience a dark and amazing story. This is a game worth preserving.
