This review contains spoilers
I do have some things to say about this game after thinking about it more.
The boost levels of course are fantastic and some of the best the series has to offer and they are really fun to replay even if you have nothing to do just boot up sonic unleashed and enjoy the beautiful graphics and tight gameplay.
And then there is the other side of the game which is the werehog stages and no they are not terrible, hell they’re fun actually but my real problem with them is that the
levels are too long and it really slows the pace of the game, especially the levels near the end of the game. I’m not saying make this short as shit but maybe make the time balance because of how these are longer than the boost levels. But besides that I will defend the werehog and say it’s not as bad as people say.
Other aspects I’ll talk about, the Tornado levels suck ass, this was a time we’re quick time events we’re a hip new trend and my god it ruins what could have been a fun top down shooter, and even if you mastered it, it gets really boring. Also the final boss is pretty underwhelming, you just play as this titan slowly heading towards dark giga and you punch the shit out of it by..
quick time events.. with 3 phases… great. I will say the super sonic segment was fun.
Alright the none videogamey stuff. The soundtrack is incredible and by far my favorite sonic soundtrack, I love how varied the tracks are which should be a given since your traveling all over the world, even the other tracks that aren’t the overworld or levels are incredible as well like come on listening to world adventure makes you want to travel around the world. The story may not be groundbreaking but I do like the simple approach though I do wish we got more story cause like after Savannah Citadel the story just doesn’t exist until you get to Adabat but do like the bond they are trying to go for with Sonic and Chip. Also I know black knight is technically Jason Griffin’s last game but main line wise what a badass way to go out.
But overall yeah I do have some faults with this game but it’s a game I will have a special place for and SEGA give this game a god damn pc port because holy shit playing this on Xbox one is depressing.
