Mass Effect series Review + Retrospective #2.2: Firewalker Pack

Don’t have much to say on this one. This is probably the worst DLC for the trilogy, a series of uninteresting boring short missions involving the M-44 Hammerhead, this game’s replacement for the Mako from ME1.

While the Mako was far from perfect, there was a certain therapeutic charm in driving it around the uncharted worlds. The Hammerhead is used instead in a series of linear levels each with a different focus, be it combat, “platforming”, or speed.

Whereas the Mako was somewhat capable in combat with its machine gun and powerful cannon, the Hammerhead has a singular gun and appears to be made of wet tissue paper. Combat encounters, especially on higher difficulties, revolve around ducking in and out of cover as you slowly whittle down enemy forces.

Skip this one, it’s boring, doesn’t net you any interesting rewards, and your squad mates have zero unique dialogue during these missions. Worst of all, it’s very clearly either rushed or cut content to fill out the “free” Cerberus Network, ME2’s obnoxious “online pass” that came with new copies of the game. Man, remember online passes?
