After finishing Nier Automata, I was still curious about the story and the world of Nier. So, I decided to play the "prequel" Nier Replicant. However, I wouldn't recommend doing that if you're expecting the stories to tie together because the reality is Replicant and Automata's stories are very different except for a few similarities here and there.

Nier Replicant is Wayyy slower than Automata and I am not exaggerating one bit when I say WAYYY slower. The entire game is mostly fetch quests after fetch quests which got tiresome. I hope you're a fan of backtracking because you're gonna be doing a whole lot of that in Replicant. I wouldn't mind these boring missions if the story was being revealed as we did them but that's not what ends up happening. The story doesn't get interesting until like 10 hours into the game which personally for me is too damn long of a wait.

I really do love the atmosphere of the game though. The game feels so cozy. I love running around Replicant's world while the ost is playing it's such a unique vibe. This is one of my favorite things about Replicant and also Automata as well.

The combat in Replicant isn't all that great but it's still pretty fun. There isn't much combo variation and some of the magic abilities are clearly way more powerful than the others so I found myself running through the game with the same loadout.

Overall Replicant was a slow painful experience. I wish part 1 didn't drag on so damn long because that's what burnt me out the most. I wish I never went into this expecting more Automata lore because that definitely ruined the story a little bit for me.
