Controversial take I know

Just not a huge fan of this one, I love everything about it except the actual game play.

I love some of the music in this game, Rainbow Road easily has the best song in the game though. I find myself listening to it from time to time.

Graphically it's in the same pseudo 2.5D style of F-ZERO, and I think the characters, backgrounds, even the tracks, all look really charming and aesthetically pleasing. I like that they made Donkey Kong JR instead of regular Donkey Kong.

The tracks are all varied and distinct, and level design is pretty solid though nothing really groundbreaking. I know they were limited by the technology but yeah, the tracks aren't anything to scream about. F-ZERO had better tracks I believe. I will also say F-ZERO is just a better game, but y'know, this review isn't about that.

My biggest problem is again the game play. It feels slow, hard to control, and clunky. turning is just kind annoying, even after figuring it out and turning properly it still just feels bad. It's not really satisfying and fun like any other Mario Kart game. It's noticeably different than future titles and that's fine, it's just not really fun. I'm, saying this is the weakest mainline Mario Kart game by far, every next mainline entry is more fun in every way. And it's not even close to being the best racing game on the SNES. Again, F-ZERO is better, the Top Gear games are better, etc.

A game that is good in every aspect but the game play, truly sad. Type of game you revisit or play with friends for a bit then say fuck this lets go play N64, Double Dash, Wii, MK8, fucking anything else.

I'm really hating on this game but it's not that bad, if you've never experienced it before it's worth a revisit I guess but for me, I have no reason to ever play this over any other Mario Kart game.
