the game that ALMOST was

infinite wealth is a weird cross between both improvements and setbacks with its predecessor: Yakuza: Like a Dragon

don't get me wrong, Infinite Wealth is a fantastic game if all you're looking for is a story, but the randomized difficulty spikes made it unbearable at times due to spending HOURS just walking around dungeons and letting the AI autofight to farm EXP

MP was also very little, and i barely had enough money at all until sometimes after half the game when it decided that fights that give me about like 2 dollars now earn me 2 billion or something, and don't even get me started on how weird the job system is, what this game felt for the most part is time padding and as someone who has a full time job and is in university for architectural engineering i do NOT have the time to spend hours grinding the randomized dungeon just to not experience much of the story, which also brings me to another thing

the final boss fight was a huge slap in the face and i refuse to actually sit down and grind AGAIN till level 54 or something so i can beat ONE DUDE, i REFUSE

this game felt like a passing of the torch from Kiryu to Ichiban, and in many ways, its perfect, but the ending is very lackluster and im sure that in due time Kiryu will come back somehow since RGG Studios have already tried the whole "end kiryu's story" deal like 30 times at this point

hawaii was plenty fun, as well as the return of kamurocho and yokohama, theres lots of great mechanics in the game and fun substories and minigames as expected of Yakuza, and the Dragon's Resurgence mechanic is still extremely fun and a great way to bring back Kiryu's old Beat'em Up style of combat, especially during THAT one boss fight, iykyk

i didnt get too deep into the positives since they are kind of expected out of an RGG studios game, like the great substories and the fun dialogues, the minigames and such, its still very much worth playing, and a great game overall, but i don't see it winning anything at the Game Awards anytime soon

the ending was perfect for kiryu, sure they may bring him back in y9 but we wont be fighting as him anymore as this is his last game as a protagonist and the ending shows he cant rely on himself anymore and is getting chemo to help treat his cancer which is for the best, he cant walk anymore but regained his name and hes going to finally spend time in morning glory with haruka and the kids
