Five player multiplayer game where four players play an FPS as soldiers trying to complete objectives and fight completely ineffective AI soldiers while they are hunted by a player controlled predator who plays in third person and can climb and leap from trees and deploy traps.
Some decent bits that add to the lore like audio tapes from Dutch, Isabelle, and the organization you are a part of and there is good weapon variety for both sides. Some parts of the maps can look pretty good, the moonlight through the trees, flaming wreckage, etc. There are some good ideas like having an objective focus before evac as a way to put a time limit on the predator while also giving a reason for the squad being in the area in the first place in line with the film, and there is a focus on covering in mud to avoid the predator's thermal vision and tracking modes.
The actual melee and shooting combat just isn't satisfying. This is made worse by there being a big focus on long off unlockable/DLC equipment that limit and weaken new players. Some weapons and equipment you need to rank up to level 30, 50, 100, etc to have access to them. There is little satisfaction in killing the predator as it just awkwardly ends the match without objectives complete. The enemy AI is almost pointless due to how weak they are and the predator's health pool with all the ways they can heal are ridiculous. You will have people unloading a hundred shots into a predator completely covered in green blood, and when they finally go down they might need another 100 bullets to put them down before they can activate their self destruct sequence. If they do activate their self destruct you need to move out of the blast range before the match ends, if they don't activate it in time or if you complete a terrible shape matching hacking minigame you then need to defend the body for extraction from AI that suddenly are obsessed with destroying the alien body. The Predator's leap ability and how quickly it can charge make them more like the early version of Superman than something stalking you through the jungle.
The movie probably wouldn't have been as memorable if, instead of slowly stalking and isolating characters, the predator could just jump down hack at someone before doing a finisher move while shrugging off dozens of shots only to leap 50 feet in the air, turn invisible, and eat a boar to completely heal.
You can have some fun if you had a full group of friends, but anything under a full five person group and it will always be a random find who gets to play as the predator. There just isn't enough gameplay variety and it is unlikely most people will see most of the weapons and gadgets as your group of friends is likely to become tired of the game long before you reach those ranks.
I also just got a new PC that is running the game fine, but my previous PC that should have had no trouble at all running the game would just crash anytime I tried to start a match and that seems to just be a thing for some people. So make sure you try to play a few games fast after buying it before just leaving it on over the two hour return window if it ends up not working for you.
