I absolutely love and respect this game's insane chuuni energy.
Although it is a pretty basic touhou clone mechanically the burst attack mechanic is satisfying on a base, primal level and the level/boss designs are good, especially when you get good enough to play on hard or exceed difficulties. There are no sleeper stages in this game, every stage and boss has at least one intense section that does a good job at keeping the player engaged throughout. The difficult to unlock extra stage is also a nice touch.
Exceed 3rd is additionally blessed with a soundtrack from one of the few metal artists I actually like: Saitama Saishu Heiki (usually abbreviated as S.S.H), and the songs here are up there with S.S.H's best, with my favourites being the stage 4 theme, the stage 5 boss theme and the extra stage theme.
