Yakuza 6 is the final game in Kiryu's saga, and provides a fantastic bookend to his character. It's a more stripped back, focused, and contemplative game than the previous few entries (0, 4, & 5). It's a story about family, passing the torch to the next generation, and moving on, both for the cast and the player. All the new characters introduced are great, and they subvert many typical Yakuza tropes in how they're handled. Nagumo is best boy.

I have some minor issues with the gameplay in this installment, the switch to Dragon Engine definitely shook up a lot of elements for better or worse. I do like that the combat feels more meaty and impactful, swinging a dude around by the legs and taking out 10 other dudes feels awesome. I don't like that it seems you have a lot less moves to work with, especially coming off of the combat styles in 0 it all feels very limited here. There's also some changes to consumables that I'm not crazy about, and the XP system is good, but the actual upgrades aren't handled as well as they were in Kiwami 2.

Overall, a really great ending to Kiryu's saga, and I'm very excited to see where the series goes from here.
