I absolutely adore how absurdly cute this game is in both the visuals and the soundtrack. The added depth of the 2.5D leads to some really great looking worlds, and it's probably one of the best looking games on the N64. On a mechanical level I really love the power up mixing and hope it's brought back at some point, because it's the best gameplay idea this game has by a long shot.

All that being said I just really didn't have much fun actually playing the game. I'm already not the biggest fan of 2D Kirby games, but after playing Forgotten Land I figured maybe this one would resonate with me a bit more than the others I've tried. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The way Kirby moves just feels so bad to me, he's slow and sluggish in all the worst ways, and even a lot of the power ups feel worse here than in other entries. Add to that the fact that the 2.5D camera angles sometimes obscure enemies or make it hard to grok exactly where everything is in relation to you and the whole game just ends up being kind of a slog.

Was worth checking out for aesthetics alone, but if I'm dying to play a Kirby game there's definitely better options.
