What a fun little surprise! The gameplay segments mostly seem to be there to justify its existence as an official Sonic the Hedgehog game, though they're decent enough bonus stages. The appeal is 100% in the character writing - it's fun to see the cast play off each other in the context of an actual video game, while also leveraging random lore beats that have historically been more relevant to spin-off material than the video games proper. Barry (or whatever you'd like for the player character) offers a fun outsider's perspective on proceedings; always fun to have someone around to remind long-time fans how weird some of the series conventions are. I'm always happy to see how much SEGA's willing to let fans play ball with official Sonic tie-ins, and I really hope this team gets another chance at bat in the future.
