Surprisingly, this it pound-for-pound one of Kirby's strongest entries. It's small in scope, to be sure, essentially a 25th anniversary remake of Kirby's Dream Land (now the SIXTH or so time DL1 had this treatment), but I find myself in love with every decision made here. Gameplay is tight and focused, with each level essentially being a score attack puzzle room. Movement isn't exactly locked to a grid, but snapping between the eight cardinal directions feels great, and there's a nice analogue weight to nailing targets with Blaster Bullets. High scores feel great to work towards, being easily within reach with just a little patience and mastery. The endgame feels like a great set of raised stakes for Kirby, with the last level specifically one of Kirby's greatest gauntlet challenges, up there with the best Arenas. The tracks are all remixes, but man, some of the later remixes give me chills. Even the short length is just right - any longer, and this gameplay style would overstay its welcome. Any shorter, and it wouldn't feel right. Don't sleep on this one.
