I think this one came out after the Genesis Sparkster but thankful I did this one second because it's better. Controls more like the original but it has a dodge roll and listen, I can't dislike a game with a dodge roll. Probably.

The level design ethos is interestingly different from either other game. Certainly more vertical, which is good because the horizontal scrolling is sluggish (I assume this is the lack of blast processing). You really get punished for dashing around without knowing what you're doing in these open levels, but being able to cancel jumps and falls with the dodge roll means you can maintain something of a balance. The levels are totally disconnected from each other, but there are 9 of them, which is not a normally accepted number of thing to be in a video game. You need to play on hard to get the last one, which is easy to recommend because it's legitimately a very cool level with a real standout music track, and easy not to recommend because once you hit your first fight with Axel Gear the bosses feel really unfair. I had to take a break when trying to beat the robot boxing boss with save states because my hands and wrists hurt.

Solid game, but not the best on the SNES or the series. In fact this is a series with one really great must-play game and then three other ones. I kinda want to play the 360 game again just to have the complete list now so you know my brain is suffering. It's got the wolves from this one in it but they're different because this isn't canon. I don't even think the Genesis one is canon to it. The plot is about how Sparkster is pig prejudiced and right to be so, it's bonkers
