nothing but happiness and support to House House and their success but it really irks and saddens me that so many beautiful indie games are largely ignored because their gameplay can't easily be repackaged into absurdist meme content to repost on twitter

While there have been some great “pioneer” indies that have garnered a huge amount of traction as of late (i.e. Hollow Knight and Celeste), I can agree with this sentiment. Lots of “meme games” with less ambition and rely more on shock value gain much more popularity for the meme potential and overall knee-jerk reaction to it. I don’t think Goose is the best example of this-it’s still a pretty decent and unique puzzle/stealth game-but other horror indies like Doki Doki, fnaf and hello neighbor have received way more recognition than they deserve just because of YouTubers being able to react to cheap shock moments or sloppy, uninspired lore.
