Honestly, this is fine.
It is best to approach this game as a way to collect Pokémon and complete the Pokédex, rather than as a classic monster collector.

I will say tho, some design choices could have been way better. The PvP and gyms are boring and uninteresting, and the whole "community" aspect is fucked up by the limitations the game impose on you (in particular, stardust) so it can sell you more on the predatory in-game purchases.

Not a game I'd spent much time on, just an app I'd open from time to time to see if there's any rare Pokémon around.
