I'll give this game kudos man. It's a ton of fun when playing with pals, capturing that quintessential Outlast hide-and-seek-style stealth. If you're gunning for end-game mastery and a conclusion to the story, you have to grapple with the awful matchmaking system which makes the whole thing utterly painful, and the lack of maps makes it a tough sell this early on. But I've always had a soft spot for Outlast. It was THE big horror game that all the YouTubers played when I was growing up (just missed the Amnesia: Dark Descent trend) and I still get a kick out of the ridiculously over-the-top gore and being chased by a 9ft man just shamelessly sprinting around with his todger out. As co-op horror games go, Outlast Trials is definitely one of the better ones out there.

But my favourite part of this is just how polite the entire community is. Everyone doing Program X (which is basically the late-game grind) has no mic, so you just spend every minute spamming text prompts to each other. Every time someone would hold open a gate for the squad, the entire team would gather around for like 20 seconds spamming thank you like they're leaving the bus and remembering to gas up the bus driver. If you give someone a bit of your health rig, they'll repeatedly crouch and stand up spamming thank you as many times as possible. I never felt sadder seeing xxBigNutDaddyxxX leave the party and knowing that dude made an effort to treat me like a friend's parent that just gave him an impromptu lift home from school. I hope xxBigNutDaddyxxX is doing well, you know?
