For the first stab at putting Sonic in a more open world setting, Sonic Team has shown that they're cooking something good here. Not a fan of the repetitive combat, the odd story moment, Chaos Island's onslaught of 2D sections, the last two islands being visually identical to the first or Cyberspace, but the game does pull through with some excellent control that makes the mere act of running around these places fun in the moment, nice character moments and writing, a relaxing side mode in the form of Big's fishing spots, and the absolute hype that is the Titan fights (except the final one) and their accompanying vocal themes. I wouldn't quite say the franchise has been saved yet, but this is a step in the right direction. All SEGA has to do, is keep the momentum going.
