I somehow forgot I played this game back in 2014 which is wild considering I remembered playing more obscure games longer ago.
The game is okay. The humor is a bit hit or miss for me but I prefer the lighter tone over similar games like Anno. The framing of "funny dictator simulator" also means that the inherent totalitarianism of a city builder doesn't sting as much.
My biggest issue is that the controls are pretty bad and that you're never shown how close "in the vincinity" is for stuff
This review made me question why I review everything. Who's going to read this and then decide whether they'll play Tropico 5 based (in part) on the review?
I think the answer to that is that I mostly review for myself. Reviewing is a nice writing exercise and also I enjoy being completionist about this.
