This review is for the 3DS version, so nothing I say here reflects my thoughts on the main console version.

If you played the first Omniverse game on 3DS, then you've played this one. This has a few more aliens and I don't remember Took helping you in that one like he does here, but none of these additions really add anything to the core experience. You're still just running from left to right, fighting a couple dudes along the way with very simple combos, and some light (and times annoying) platforming.

The gameplay isn't the worst I've seen from a licensed side scrolling beat-em-up, but it's not very good. Every alien has a basic ground and air combo, a special move that can only be done by filling a combo meter, and a heavy attack. There's not much enemy variety with most of them just being the same enemy, but bigger or with a special effects when they hit you like blinding the screen or changing you to a random alien. This is all very simple and works....for the first few levels. It doesn't take long to fill repetitive and for enemies to just start armoring through your attacks and feel like damage sponges (I swear I was doing 100 hit combos and an enemy just wouldn't die). At first I thought the aliens would act as lives since when they die, you can't play as them again unless you find a healing item. Then I discovered all of them get revived and fully healed just by throwing yourself down a pit. There's no punishment for this either cause checkpoints are frequent and enemies and objects you attacked/defeated don't revive or gain health back.

The platforming bits of levels never really felt right. When you just gotta jump from platform to platform it was fine, even with the ones that attack you if you stand on them for too long. Problems arise when it's platforms that you have to attack first to activate or there's objects you have to destroy at the end. The ones you have to attack first always felt like I glitched my way onto them since your projectiles rarely feel like they go high or low enough to hit. If there's an object at the end of a section, be prepared to fall into the pit a lot to fully destroy the item unless you want to spam weak projectiles since melee attacks do more damage.

The game is mediocre at best and frustrating at worst. Hell the final boss was the biggest letdown since you just gotta push it off a ledge. I wouldn't recommend this game to anybody, no matter how much you like Ben 10.
