I dropped this game ages ago and came back to beat it. I definitely got frustrated with it back then; I'm generally not a fan of games that require x amount of points to unlock further levels. I was surprised how easy it was to get back into the gameplay and how little I struggled, given that I remember really raging at it way back.

The game itself is okay. You go through levels (or have to survive in an arena) shooting robots, picking up the occasional power-up, maybe an equipment drop, drinking beers to heal and after beating the level you use the nuts you got from killing robots to purchase said equipment. This constitutes the grind of the game; it's balanced enough that you can play whatever way you want, but you'll always need upgrades on the guns and armor you're using. This can get frustrating if you have a really nice assault rifle you like, but you can't find the better version of it and the one you have doesn't deal enough damage to progress in the later levels.

This game also has microtransactions which you can use to quickly unlock equipment. I'm not sure if it bypasses level/nuts requirements or having to find them, but it's always there in the equipment screen. It's not super in your face but it still feels kinda gross.

Technically the game is fine. The soundtrack isn't particularly amazing, but I do enjoy the graphics. It's got this style to it that sets it apart from other games, even if the character and monster design isn't really anything impressive.

The game is okay, probably more enjoyable as a riot with friends.
