Another great Konami game that they released. This entry is a run & gun platformer that is viewed as one of the hard games to beat on the NES.
The Story of this game is about two badasses named Bill Rizer and Lance Bean and their goal is to stop a terrorist group to take over the world. Pretty simple plot, but works for this type of game.
The music in this game is an absolute banger. The first moment you step foot in the jungle, this songs motivates you beat all the baddies in the game. Yes there are some songs that are shared between stages, however, because of the limitation of the cartridge, it's understandable that they couldn't create songs for each stages. They were still able to create a good variety nonetheless.
The graphics are really good. They have create some good background that makes you immerge in the stage that you are, which is really nice. The enemies sprites are also good. However, there's some parts that when there's too many stuff happening, there a bit of lag.
The gameplay is the juicy part of this game. It's a 2D platformers that you go from left to right and you try to beat enemies and bosses to reach the next stage. You are equip with your gun and you have a really good mobility when it comes to shooting and jumping. You can shoot while jumping and you can also crouch to shoot while dodging bullets.
Sometimes, you will have some stages that you will need to forward instead of going the classic up, down, left or right. This perspective is really a nice touch, even though it's sometimes hard to know what is gonna hit you.
There's also some special containers that when shot, they can give you an upgrade to your gun. It can be different types of guns that are stronger or are simply have a bigger range of attack. Those upgrade are so fun to explore and you will probably find your favorite gun among those.
What makes this game really hard is the fact that you die in only one hit. When you die, you lose the upgrades that you had. There's also a lot of enemies and projectiles coming your way. On top of that, you only have 3 lives to start with. If you lose all your lives, you are game over. At least to help you out on that aspect, you can enter the famous Konami code to start with 30 lives instead. What is also nice is that you respawns instantaneously
into the level instead of having a loading screen.
Even though the game is really hard, it's still a blast to play this game. This game is even better to beat with a friend as well in a coop setting. I would recommend to try this game at least once in your life.
