In The First Tree you play as a fox, but it's really a guy describing his dream to his wife. It serves as narration and metaphor for the whole thing, but it just isn't very well put together.
The gameplay is simplistic, as you would expect, with mostly just running, collecting and some comically bad jumping. The art style is nice, but inconsistent. The game sometimes looks lovely, but other times it looks like horrible 90s CGI. It just feels amateurish.
However, all this would be forgivable were it not for the absolutely cringe writing and unbelievably flat voice acting. It could've been a wonderful, emotional little game, but the bad writing just ruins the whole thing. The soundtrack is quite nice, though.
