I was expecting to hate this game or find it horrifically boring, but I actually found it to be halfway decent. The platforming feels pretty solid, and takes a lot from the original Yoshi's Island which is a really great game. Problem is, is that this game feels like a shallow ripoff of the original game. Everything this game does is worse than the original and Yoshi's New Island doesn't have a lot NEW ideas for itself. The levels are much less interesting than the original (no Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy notably). This games vehicle transformations are incredibly lame. They all require you to use gyro, and teleport you somewhere outside the level, which just makes them feel like boring minigames. The music is much worse, and notably contains some the worst songs written by mankind. Seriously the main menu music is awful and made me want to rip my ears out every time I turned this game on. The bosses are all fairly generic and easy Hit Three Times type bosses. Even the art style is much less appealing in my opinion.

So why do I say it is decent? Well platforming and throwing eggs feels pretty good. The levels are mostly pretty easy and short, so it's quick, easy and satisfying to just get through a couple levels here and there. Also, most of the elements they pull from the original game are still fun here. One of my favorites is the wheels of platforms you have to spin in order to move forward, and that's still fun here. Ultimately, this game is an extremely safe and inoffensive sequel to Yoshi's Island, and doesn't really ever strive to be anything more. For that, it is fine, but would've been awesome to see them actually try to do more with this game.
