Silent Hill Short Message really piqued my interest when I saw it announced, and it was finally released during the State of Play. Personally, I thought it was an alright experience, it did miss that feeling of being on edge that I had with the older Silent Hill titles, but during the few chase sequences it had, it was pretty intense, too bad we only had a handful of them. The story isn’t all bad in my eyes, the protagonist could’ve been better but at the end of the day, she was ok.But the themes of depression could’ve been handled much better, at times it does feel like a callous parent’s outlook on depression. Also I feel Silent Hill 3 did a way better job at expressing the themes of woman hood, and social commentary. It’s by no means a great introduction to Silent Hill, but I’d still recommend it, especially since it’s free.
