I feel so bad for Ethan as a character but also he has the funniest and corniest one-liners of all time (a tall order coming from Resident Evil). While it's not a scary as RE7 (minus the baby section) I found it to be a complete improvement in terms of gameplay. The return of RE4's inventory and upgrade system/item store really improve the gunplay which I found to be quite frustrating in RE7. You don't have to be anywhere near as precise with spending and inventory management as 4, and the game is about half the length, but it still works pretty well. This honestly just feels like the most balanced fusion between the different eras of Resident Evil game design. Also a pretty visually beautiful game, especially in the castle.

Shadow Of Rose addendum: A walking simulator with recycled objectives from the base game. HOWEVER the Doll House section made me so paranoid I had to close the game so congrats I guess

I know Ethan is a controversial character but his end was great, his scenes and dialogue made me cry. This also means that Village is the only Resi game that managed to do that and I will always give this game high credit for it.

I'm pretty new to the franchise so I never really got why people found Ethan controversial. I mean he's literally just some regular guy that has terrible things happen to himself and his family whereas every other protagonist is some jacked up super cop, so I'd say that the way he deals with situations is pretty understandable. And quality-wise his dialogue is on par with every other protag, in my opinion.
