tbh good on steel wool for releasing a 3.5 hour DLC with brand new locations and mechanics for free, actually pretty cool of them

The DLC itself is a mixed bag, but I can at least applaud it for the story (only counting the normal ending please let the next FNAF game be normal about endings) and aesthetic. I absolutely called part of the ending, but the other part was completely unexpected and I'm incredibly curious to see where they go with that (again assuming the normal ending is actually canon).

Ruin at least feels more polished than the base game - I only fell through the map once, and the only bug that really affected gameplay was potentially weird enemy AI behavior in a segment towards the end that made it a bit confusing on what the actual intended AI was supposed to be doing.

The darker tone works great - you don't have a companion to just ignore absolutely everything with anymore, everything is falling apart and feels a lot more like an actual horror game, and the completely messed up animatronics really help sell that.

Gameplay-wise, Ruin has some issues. What felt like 10% of the DLC is actually spent in danger of being killed by something. While they tried to have the looming danger of M.X.E.S to keep you balancing your mask usage, all you need to do is just take it off and wait a few seconds before putting it back on to completely ignore him outside of the scripted segments. Additionally, the DLC loves throwing the same exact puzzle type at you every dozen minutes or so - it never gets hard or annoying or anything, but it does start feeling repetitive by the end.

The story is also in a weird place after this DLC. There's 3 different endings - one is obviously not canon, but we won't know until Ruin Part 2 or Security Breach 2 or whatever the hell Steel Wool/Scott Cawthon have planned to actually figure out which it is. Additionally, the DLC just completely deconfirmed the canonicity of the ending literally marked as the real ending in Security Breach's files (as far as I'm aware at least), which is certainly a decision. It'd be fine if the secret ending had the same end state but with additional lore or whatever, but the way it plays out has two completely separate end states that can't co-exist at all.
