The story and main cast are fantastic, but man I can't believe Persona had such shit gameplay before 5. And even 5 doesn't have that good gameplay.

Before the invention of baton passes, the once more system ends up being pretty shallow, not much deeper than a super effective attack in pokemon. So most dungeon crawls end up just being a grind of hitting effective attacks until you run out of SP and do it all again a different day.
P5 improves on this by having once more's be dynamic with choosing who to pass to, but this actually results in an insane overcorrection by making the system too easy. Not at all assisted by the fact that getting ambushes is easier than ever in P5.
And BOTH games have the problem of terrible Shadow collecting, though for different reasons. In P4 it's because your shadow lineup is random, and even then you have to waste your time with a minigame to get it even if the one you want DOES show up. In P5, not only is the answer system not fully described to you, but it's also so vague that you can never even be sure what your answers mean unless you look up a guide.

eh, you're kinda right in your own way, but i don't think their gameplay is BAD. p5 is just too easy lol. and yeah the cast of p4 is goated asl, can't wait for the remake and to know the changes they make to the combat, p3r is great, the series is in good hands.
