An engaging, thrilling loop of endless violence, set to one of the best soundtracks to ever grace my ears, HOTLINE MIAMI continues to stand the test of time as an incredibly fun game. NameBrand

It's a short game to complete, and your first run through it all probably won't take you longer than 5 hours, and subsequent playthroughs, maybe no longer than 3 hours or less. But that arcade style of being able to pick it up and play it for an interval of time here or there make its re-playability so accessible and addicting. Anytime I feel nostalgia about this game I can easily work it in alongside other games I'm playing or between the fabric of my life.

And in a sense this game has been in the fabric of my life and my being. The soundtrack alone I've listened to at least 50 times over (far more than I've played the game.) The odd mystery in the game is every bit of compelling as it was to me the first time and its influence has spread into my own creative works. It's a timeless game.

Gameplay is fast, fluid, violent. You're punished for not thinking through your strategy, but if you have the skill, you're rewarded for boldness. It's impossible to not engage with the scoring system in the game, to try and top yourself, to try and unlock all the weapons and all the masks. And even if you don't feel compelled, there's always a spare 3 hours in your future that you can fill with HOTLINE MIAMI and continue the process then.

The game is impeccably designed, I can't say it enough. Every scenario with every enemy placement, and all the weapons within, were all meticulously well thought out to give you the best experience possible.

It's hard for me to not recommend this game, and especially if you can find it in a bundle with the sequel, it's well worth your time and your money.

(Played great on SteamDeck)
