One of the most important things when it comes to enjoying a game is having a nice "feel" to it's gameplay, it's vague I know, but the real ones know what I'm talking about. In NES Soccer it feels like you're kicking around a cement block with your players very slowly marching around the pitch as their broken ankles barely get their bodies to turn.

The AI also suffers a reverse problem from the Baseball game, instead of pretending to be sometimes bad and insulting your intelligence before clowning your ass with ease, they're instead fairly incompetent. After only a minutes-worth of practice I was already scoring on the CPU by gingerly walking up to their net, and scoring with the slowest shot you'll ever see straight into their goal as their keeper looked on in amazement at just how good I was at the game.

It's grim for me to say, but I'd rather watch the real thing than play this.
